Staying Hydrated With Migraine

Migraine attacks are more common during the hot seasons. It is vital to drink water because it helps to keep your body hydrated and healthy. Most organs in your body contain a large percentage of water, and their functions are affected when the water reduces.

Dehydration can cause dizziness, dry skin, headache, dry mouth, and thirst. Unfortunately, many people do not realize that these conditions are the result of dehydration.

Dehydration and Migraine

Studies have shown a link between dehydration and migraine. Research published in the National Library of Medicine found that drinking more water resulted in a statistically significant improvement in Migraine-Specific Quality of Life (MSQOL).

Water plays a vital role in balancing the chemical composition in our bodies. When you are dehydrated, the chemicals become too concentrated, thereby triggering a migraine. Although drinking enough fluid may not completely stop your migraines, it will decrease the attacks’ severity and frequency.

How to Stay Hydrated

There are many ways you can stay hydrated all day long and avoid the problems associated with dehydration.

  • Drink Plenty of Water. Water is the easiest way to stay hydrated because it does not contain additives or chemicals which can interfere with body function.

Water helps in blood circulation and regulates your body temperature, and removes waste materials from your body.

  • Eat Plenty of Fruits and Vegetables. For those who do not like to drink plenty of water – fruits and vegetables are great alternatives. Don’t take fizzy and alcoholic drinks. Rather eat fruits and vegetables which contain a lot of water.Fruits and vegetables like watermelon, oranges, cabbage, and lettuce contain 80 – 90 percent water.
  • Drink Low-fat Milk. Milk is not only delicious and a source of vital nutrients, but it can also help you stay hydrated.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care has proven to be an effective way of helping sufferers of migraine reduce the severity and frequency of the attacks.

Two small bones link the head to the spine. When there is an injury or misalignment of these vertebrae, central nervous system disorders can arise. Migraines occur when the misaligned vertebrae put pressure on and irritate the nerves in the brainstem.

To address the chief cause of the migraine, digital x-ray, and thermal imaging tests will be conducted. If you have an injury, the upper cervical chiropractor will give you chiropractic care. This will start a process that’ll heal the damage and stop the irritation of the nerves.

Have migraine attacks made it impossible for you to work, study, and handle other duties? Stay dehydrated. But more importantly, seek chiropractic care.
